Wisteria in Boston
For wisteria lovers: this is a great article about a life-long wisteria project in Cambridge MA. Photos and tips on getting wisteria to bloom. Thanks to Louise! p.s. Why doesn't our wisteria ever bloom?
Not as bad as kudzu though! Incidentally it looks like I've been spelling it wrong, "a" not "e". It can get pretty rampant even around here. Wistariahurst in Holyoke is a house that in the past has been completely covered in wistaria http://www.wistariahurst.org They cut the wistaria way back a few years ago because it was getting so heavy it was crushing the supporting structure. there is some very nice very old wistaria on pergolas at the Brooklyn botanical garden. Louise who is a native plant nut er enthusiast regards wistaria as an alien invasive. Maybe that's why ours never blooms.
So funny to read about wisteria in New England as desirable. Here in the South , it it considered one of the worst invasives.
